Music Saves Lives mission is an extension of a Community Policing Integration Strategy as an organization that provides community pop up events and indoor concerts in partnership with various police departments, elected officials, community groups, faith based organizations, organizations with resources such as housing, job training, drug addiction, youth services and more.
Our goal is to provide community partners to gather in a safe space outdoors while listening to live music performances, dance groups and other performances while simultaneously providing the above listed resources. The areas of concentration will be in areas where high violence and poverty are at the highest, the founder Daniel Allen experience as working as a community policing sergeant for many years in the City of Chicago 11th District has provided us an opportunity to display our past successes by reducing crime in those geographical areas by 70% where the events were being held at.
Using music as a platform to both engage community members in need of resources, reducing crime and providing entertainment for no cost to our community throughout the country.
According to the Chicago Police Department, this very special department defined as the Chicago Alternative Policing Strategy, works to be the partnership between police and community which is the foundation of Chicago’s own philosophy of community policing.
In1995, the Chicago Police Department implemented CAPS across all Chicago neighborhoods with the goal of blending traditional policing strategies with alternative strategies aimed at encouraging community members and police to work together in order to prevent and control crime.
According to the book, "Community Policing, Chicago, Style", by Wesley G. Skogan and Susan M. Hartnett, the CAPS Implementation Office was created and staffed by civilian community outreach workers who organized court advocacy programs and coordinated city services in support of CAPS related programs. The implementation includes five strategies: problem-solving, turf orientation, community involvement, linkage to city services, and new tools for police. Other features of the implementation strategy include support from other government agencies, enhanced training, computerized crime analysis, updated marketing and communications techniques, stricter and more quantitative evaluation metrics, and long-term strategic planning.
